A tribute to Dr.Rajani Thiranagama

Growing up in a Dark age of Civil war had its own perks, For me I had the opportunity to listen to many war stories from my father at my very early age. I  remember Rajani Thiranagama , from my father’s stories and Narration.Decades have passed. I hope this blog will Keep Rajani’s Legacy alive

A human rights activist, feminist, critic of narrow nationalism and opponent of irresponsible militarism. Rajani remains an inspiration and symbol of hope to many in Sri Lanka who desire a just peace with democracy and dignity for all, especially minority communities in the country.

She was killed by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Till today Many people reluctant to give her full respect and credit for her immense bravery. She was a beacon of light for a community living in fear and struggling for self respect

Her writing ” Broken Palymra” was acclaimed by many people. I had an opportunity to go through some of the chapters . This book exposes the agony of the Tamil people, the cynicism of the Indian and Sri Lankan states and the hypocrisy of the Tamil leadership, both past and present. The book remins human rights violations by all sides.

A powerful documentary was produced    after her assassination by National Film Board of Canada ” No more tears sister” . Rajani’s life and her legacy are brought to life in that movie. I was fortunate I had the opportunity to watch it while growing up.

Standing against oppression and brutality in all its forms would be the best way to keep Rajani’s legacy alive.
Peace ☮

    Words with meaning
Killing an activist for her criticisms is insane
Even after her death and final war, oppression and brutality took another form by changing its shape in SL
    Peace to all

I’m just making statement quoting from the warcrimes . I wrote this article to make her legacy to shine again .
Rajani bravely stood up against the insane adherence to the gun.She wanted to awaken the consciousness of her people and to
create the much needed democratic space.

Yes brutality and oppression continued and we should stand up for them. Bringing an awarness is the best way and our peers and fellow friends should be given a clear picture about this.

      Peace again
